It all started with a master thesis: Welcome, Nikola!

Nikola Mirchev joined our software team as a working student at the end of April this year. We are happy that he decided to work full time at Cevotec as a Software Engineer after finishing his master thesis at the end of October.
After Nikola already learned the basics of system programming at high school back in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, he came to Germany and is now doing his Master’s in computer science at the Technical University of Munich. Before joining our software team, he worked for Wacker Neuson as a software developer in the field of Virtual Reality using UE4, Android applications and web development. Currently, he is writing his master’s thesis at Cevotec about the “Development of an algorithm for the creation of near-parallel curves on a CAD surface”.
To understand the purpose of Nikola’s work it is important to know that when designing the laminate in PATCH ARTIST, the patches need to be distributed on the surface so that gaps and overlaps between each other are avoided in each layer. In ARTIST STUDIO, this is done by generating “guide” curves on the surface, and then placing the patches along those curves. One way of generating such curves is to have a “master” curve on the surface, defined by the user, and offset that curve orthogonally along the surface to produce “slave” curves. Nikola’s task is implementing an in-house algorithm for this procedure, which will make it easier for our software team to modify and maintain this process.
We’re not only excited about to the results of Nikola’s master’s thesis but also looking forward to welcoming him full-time in our cevoTeam from November onwards!

AboutCevotec

Munich-based automation specialist Cevotec offers one of the world’s most advanced production systems for complex fiber composites. At the intersection of composites, mechanical engineering and software, Cevotec develops production systems and software based on Fiber Patch Placement (FPP) technology: SAMBA and ARTIST STUDIO. The production systems enable the automated lay-up of carbon fiber, glass fibers, adhesive films and other technical fibers on complex 3D geometries. Manufacturers use FPP technology to produce e.g. multi-material aerostructures, composite pressure vessel reinforcements, and other high-performance components in a quality-controlled, fully automated process, which enables them to realize cost & cycle time savings of 20%-60% when switching from conventional processes to Fiber Patch Placement.
