cevoGripper

Form-adaptive placement tool for highly complex 3D surfaces.

cevoGripper

Adapting to complexity

The cevoGripper is the key to a fast, precise, and fully automated lay-up process for complex composite geometries. Designed as a form-adaptive patch gripper, it is available in customizable sizes to perfectly match your specific component requirements. The intelligent gripper system automatically adapts to even the most challenging 3D surfaces, including sharp 90° angles and biaxially curved areas, ensuring patches are placed accurately and without unwanted draping effects. This results in consistent quality, improved throughput, and enhanced process reliability in composite manufacturing.

Cevotec flexible patch gripper overview

Gripper Technology

At the core of our Fiber Patch Placement (FPP) technology, the cevoGripper delivers precision and reliability. Available in multiple configurations, the gripper applies controlled high pressure during placement, minimizing or even eliminating time-consuming intermediate debulking steps. This advanced approach ensures optimized adhesion, reduced cycle times, and increased automation efficiency for composite lay-up applications.

  • A5: 240mm x 180mm (Schunk connector SWS-020)
  • L: 240mm x 60mm (Schunk connector SWS-001)
  • M: 180mm x 45mm (Schunk connector SWS-001)
  • S: 90mm x 45mm (Schunk connector SWS-001)

Automated quality control

Our SAMBA systems are able to monitor the stiffness of the gripper with our force torque sensor. This  additional feature is available to all FPP systems. After a certain number of placement cycles or if significant changes in the compaction pressure are documented by the sensor, a gripper maintenance should be performed.

Gripper refurbishment

With increasing number of placement cycles, the foam of the gripper degrades, gradually reducing the compaction force. We offer a gripper maintenance to ensure the full capacity of the gripper system. For this purpose, we will only replace the foam and the contact surface, which saves resources and money.

Key feature: Rolling Motion

By scaling the patch sizes, Cevotec has significantly broadened the range of processable components using Fiber Patch Placement technology. The cevoGripper can currently handle patches up to DIN A4 size, enabling efficient application on large, highly curved surfaces.

The innovative rolling motion feature, integrated into the SAMBA production systems, ensures that larger patches are applied evenly along a curve across their entire surface rather than being placed centrally (stamping motion). This unique capability enhances process flexibility, surface conformity, and production speed, making it a key innovation in automated composite lay-up solutions.
