SAMBA Pro for Christmas, new ARTIST STUDIO features and growing the cevoTeam

Dear friends of Fiber Patch Placement,

As the year 2021 comes to a close, we look back on a special year. It was a successful one for Cevotec and Fiber Patch Placement, despite ongoing challenges connected with the pandemic. Our teams successfully delivered several SAMBA Systems, completed new technical features like our variable patch length, and as a company, we’ve teamed up with GFM from Austria as strong new partner that shares our vision and aspirations.

But 2021 was also coined by the consequences of a continued global pandemic situation: travel restrictions, supply chain squeezes, and resource shortages led to challenges that required increased flexibility. We are very thankful for the excellent collaboration with our customers and suppliers that allowed us to complete important projects in time – and I’m proud of our teams who put in extraordinary efforts to make this happen!

Looking forward towards 2022, we continue our growth and are currently expanding our team. Have a look at our current job openings and forward to friends who might be interested! And as confirmed by the high interest in our H2 tank webinar this month: We plan to expand our commercial offering with a dedicated SAMBA System for composite pressure vessel dome reinforcements. More details to follow in 2022.

SAMBA Pro Christmas delivery to NIAR
As you may recall from our newsletter in December 2020, the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita State University (WSU) selected FPP technology for their portfolio of future composites production technologies. After a year of development, design and construction, the SAMBA Pro system was finalized last month. cevoSanta picked up the parcels right in time to deliver them to NIAR for Christmas.

Variable patch length in ARTIST STUDIO

At Cevotec, we always aim to push the limits and exploit the full flexibility of Fiber Patch Placement. With FPP technology, we offer a high degree of automation both in software-based laminate design and physical production, as well as their seamless interface. As our SAMBA systems produce the fiber patches “in-line” by cutting fiber tape, we have repeatedly received requests for variability of patch lengths within a laminate or even a single layer. Variability in patch length introduces an additional degree of freedom that our algorithms can take advantage of. For manufacturers, this results in faster cycle times, less material scrap, and better structural part properties. We have now completed the integration of this functionality into the CAD module PATCH ARTIST.

Webinar: H2 tank reinforcements with FPP

Beginning of December, we hosted our first Cevotec webinar on “H2 tank reinforcements with FPP“. Thorsten Groene (CEO) and Dr. Florian Lenz (Technical Director) presented our industrial reinforcement solution that improves the material efficiency of composite tanks significantly. The webinar was quite a success: More than 60 people attended from all over the world and we were really impressed by the high level of interest in the Q&A session.

Learn more about our industrial reinforcement solution for pressure vessels that allows manufacturers to decrease weight & cost of vessels by 15%. In a series production setting, the investment in FPP technology amortizes already in the first year of production!

Despite the constantly evolving pandemic situation we had the pleasure to attend some in-person meetings this autumn. Our Sales Lead Arne Muncke visited B2B meetings in Nantes, Torino and the JEC Forum DACH. We also presented at several digital events: Dr. Florian Lenz spoke about our pressure vessel solution at JEC Korea as well as at SAMPE Japan, and presented our FPP lay-up solutions at the Composite United Innovation Day “Automated lamination – The innovation of prepreg stacks”. Finally, we closed the event year with a successful Aviation Forum Hamburg beginning of December.
